Title: Junior Staff Accountant
Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Accounting Manager
Job Description:
The Junior Accountant will directly support both daily bookkeeping and monthly financial operations in a fast-paced retail environment. Assist with journal entries, reconcile accounts, maintain ledgers, and prepare routine financial reports, including balance sheets and income statements. Close collaboration with Senior Accountants offers a chance to build confidence, versatility, and a well-rounded understanding of financial operations at scale.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily reconciliations for sales, accounts receivable, and warehouse inventory.
- Prepare and post journal entries and accruals under the guidance of senior staff.
- Support period-end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations.
- Book daily bank deposits and wires and help monitor AR activity.
- Collaborate with team members to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Contribute to fixed asset and prepaid expense tracking and reconciliations.
- Assist in reviewing entries for accuracy and preparing correcting journal entries.
- Support internal and external audit requests and help maintain audit documentation.
- Cross-train in areas such as store accounting, bank reconciliations, and intercompany entries, and paid expenses.
- Participate in special projects and assist with other general accounting tasks as needed.

Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (completed or in progress)
- 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred, internship or retail industry experience a plus.
- Basic understanding of general accounting principles and month-end close cycles.
- Proficiency using full Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.), including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis. Comfortable analyzing and validating large data sets.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics AX or Great Plains) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Physical Demands
May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is non-exempt; Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; schedule would be based on business necessity and coordinated through the reporting supervisor.
