About the Role

The Produce Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the operations and performance of the Produce department. This role leads the team to deliver high-quality, fresh produce while ensuring excellent customer service, effective merchandising, and compliance with Vallarta’s standards for food safety and workplace safety.

What You’ll Do

• Leadership & Supervision: Manage department team members, schedules, and evaluations. Enforce company rules, safety practices, and support personal development.

• Customer Service: Greet customers and team members with courtesy and respect, ensuring extraordinary service.

• Team Development: Mentor and train employees, provide recognition, and recommend promotions.

• Operations: Plan, organize, and control department activities, order merchandise, control inventory, and review invoices.

• Merchandising: Create and maintain merchandising plans, space management, signage, and display quality.

• Compliance & Safety: Enforce Vallarta’s Safety Program, food safety regulations, and sanitation practices. Correct unsafe acts or conditions immediately.

• Financial Responsibility: Project weekly sales, managing payroll and expenses, and control shrinkage and pilferage.

• Auditing & Reporting: Conduct inventories, audit pricing and codes, and ensure compliance with weight and measures laws.

• Other Duties: Attend meetings and perform additional tasks as assigned to support store success.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).

• Frequently bend, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.

• Frequent use of hands for simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (potatoes/beans).

• Heaviest item carried: 50 lbs.; longest distance: 5 feet.

• Operate cars, trucks, forklifts, and other moving equipment safely.

• Work near equipment and machinery, with exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and noise.

• Work in refrigerated coolers and around humidity for short periods.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of produce experience.

• Strong knowledge of produce types, equipment, and merchandising practices.

• Ability to lead, mentor, and manage teams effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong math and problem-solving skills.

• Must successfully pass food safety certification every 3 years.

• Strong communication skills and a positive, professional attitude.

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

• Must be able to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

• Fast-paced retail produce setting with direct customer interaction.

• Exposure to perishable products, refrigerated coolers, and changing conditions.

• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
