About the Role

The Grocery Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the overall operation, quality, and performance of the grocery department. This role ensures sales and profit goals are achieved while maintaining Vallarta’s merchandising philosophy, quality standards, and extraordinary customer service. The Grocery Manager also supervises department staff, controls inventory and ensures compliance with company policies and safety standards.

What You’ll Do

• Smile and greet customers and team members; deliver extraordinary service using Vallarta’s six steps.

• Model Vallarta’s Core Values: customer service, commitment, integrity, respect, humility, and teamwork.

• Achieve company goals for merchandising, gross profits, orders, price integrity, inventory, and presentation.

• Build and maintain displays, schematics, and signage according to standards.

• Control department expenses, shrink, and pilferage losses.

• Oversee quarterly physical inventory and daily rotation of perishable products.

• Forecast sales, place orders with vendors, and control overstocks/out-of-stocks.

• Review invoices and transfers; report discrepancies immediately.

• Ensure merchandise is properly stocked on shelves and in designated storage areas.

• Handle damaged, distressed, and out-of-code products per policy.

• Supervise, train, and evaluate department team members; schedule staff based on sales forecasts.

• Ensure compliance with health codes, safety policies, and company rules.

• Report injuries, unsafe conditions, or misconduct promptly.

• Treat coworkers and customers respectfully at all times.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by Store Director or Supervisor.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk constantly (6–8+ hours/day).

• Frequently bend neck/waist, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.

• Frequent repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

• Heaviest item required to carry: 50 lbs. (one item), up to 12 feet.

• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and moving equipment (buddy system for 51+ lbs.).

• Work near equipment/machinery; exposure to dust, gas, fumes, noise, and temperature/humidity changes.

• Work on uneven ground occasionally.

• May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).

What We’re Looking For

• 3–4 years of retail grocery management experience.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

• Knowledge of grocery operations, inventory, and vendor relations.

• Ability to forecast sales, control expenses, and build effective displays.

• Proficient in Outlook, Excel, and Word.

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
